FOR YOUR H2O – FOR OUR WORLD
Present in form of a book with a water bottle

Concept

Access to water is a right that should be guaranteed for everyone. Our participation is not just about taking part in an international competition, but about our strong social commitment in declaring that design culture is
responsible for a series of actions and products. We need to reinvent "DESIGN", which must be
ethical, sustainable, recyclable, but above all, sensitive to our surrounding environment and
resources.
The design consists of a book/box divided into 3 sections:
- the first section is a photo report which, using one single slogan, bears witness to and narrates the
privations and precariousness of this resource, water, worldwide. The use of images transcends
written, religious and cultural messages, making for more direct observation and interpretation of
what surrounds us;
- the second section contains a number of pages of the book/box, cut to be an exact fit for the water
bottle;
- the third section is the water bottle itself, personalised with lettering that expresses a total ethical
conscience of problems relating to the environment and to this resource, water: “FOR YOUR
H2O FOR OUR WORLD”.

LEE / Light Emitting Europe
Desktop Light

Concept

LEE is a special gift, a desktop light specifically designed for the EESC, showing the environmental challenge Europe faces and bringing sustainability into practice.
LEE also tells a more poetic story about energy efficiency. The incorporated light dimmer enables you to actually dim the lights of Europe. This is an illustration of the fact that at an individual level we do have an influence on the larger scale. The micro level affects the macro level.

FORGET-ME-NOT
Gadget to help avoiding food waste

Concept

To waste food it's a waste of money, it's disrespectful towards people in need and on top of it hurts the planet as it takes an immense amount of energy just to get fresh products all the way to your fridge. Cultivation, pro-cessing, packaging, (cool) storing, transport,… all these steps are very energy consuming. Yet all this energy is completely wasted when food ends up untouched in the bin.
The 5-days-fresh execution is targeted to be used on bricks and bottles containing fresh juices and diary products, which usually need to be consumed within 5 days.

Title

GREEN BAG

Concept

The general public has become more and more aware of how important it is to treat the world with care. The GREEN BAG makes it easy to separate trash to three different categories
of your own choice. They could for example be: Plastic, cans and bio-degradable. The GREEN BAG is in travelling size so it folds easily when empty or has little trash in it. It can be hanged inside a car or carried when hiking or walking. The GREEN BAG can be dismantled and washed. With every GREEN BAG comes a small brochure explaining how the GREEN BAG works together with facts about recycling.

Title

A BIT OF EUROPE
Flower Gift

Concept

A bit for Europe is inspired by the traditional give-away of flowers bouquets…but cut flowers are not really sustainable in any way. (transport, energy consuming glass houses, etc). The pot made of European soil with biodegradable resin symbolizes the ground we all live in, which we need to take care of. The flower pot can be used as a storage pot or to plant the seeds coming along.

Title

WHAT-WATT
Power Consumption Meter

Concept

What-Watt is a power consumption meter that can monitor various house hold electrical appliances. The information it provides can be used to assess the energy efficiency of any given appliance. It can also be used to measure the phantom power (standby power) of an appliance such as a TV. The What-Watt is plugged in between the electrical appliance and the wall socket. It can measure instant power use (watt), average power use (watt/hours) or an accumulated reading (watt/hours). The user can then refer to the packaging/instruction fridge magnet to analyse the feedback. The packaging is designed to be educational and integrated with the product and not simply thrown away. The reverse side of the packaging has instructions and information printed on it. The packaging also has fridge magnets attached, so it can be placed on the fridge where it will encourage interaction.

Sustainability

What-Watt informs the user of his/her power consumption

Title

SolarU
Solar Battery Charger

Concept

SolarU is a solar battery charger. This concept was designed for simplicity. However it still features innovative use of sustainable design and materials and provides a product that encourages sustainable practices. SolarU has a solar panel that converts the suns energy into electrici-ty. It can be used to charge various AA rechargeable batteries. Many devices such as remote controls use AA batteries which could be rechargeable and charged through the suns energy. The packaging will feature the same sustainable qualities as the previous concept. The reverse side of the packaging has instructions and information printed on it. The packaging also has fridge magnets attached, so it can be placed on the fridge where it will encourage interaction.

Sustainability

As opposed to consuming power, the SolarU produces power. It educates the user about sustainable practices and encourages the use of rechargeable batteries. In 5 hours of full sun, can charge a standard 500 mAh rechargeable battery.

WOOD BAR

Concept

The wood bar is a conceptual product which shows the issues of our time in an artistic way raising awareness to real human needs. The wood bar is concerned with the current financial crisis and the need of the rising awareness for the nature. The issues of our time are visualized by the means of an iconic art object. Through its simplicity the wood bar is very sustainable and highly communicative.

Title

SEED LIGHT

Concept

The seed light is an object that uses a simple idea; it utilizes the energy within our body to create light. The
energy that we use to illuminate the activities of our bodies metaphorically with this object can come from our
same body. This object, like a seed, creates the consciousness of producing light from our own body.
The object is designed with the shape of a seed from which metaphorically new ideas and inspiration can rise

Title

PRETTY UGLY

Concept

“Pretty ugly” is a one-way cutlery made of pigskin. It is made out of sustainable material which is usually worthless in a commercial sense and therefore available for free. The cutlery is a social experiment crossing the frontier of human perception and moral concepts. It is
all about decontextualizing of pig skin, including aspects
of mass production and the throw-away mentality.
Furthermore, the skin experiences a second revival, increasing its value through aesthetic and practical dimensions.

Sustainability

Almost every part... The pigskin is worthless. Even if processed into leather it is only of minor quality.
In most cases it is thrown away eventually.
My goal was to find possibilities of recycling the pigskin and therefore re-integrate it into the product cycle.
Through the utilization of the pigskin and its increased quality, the complete animal body can be used.

Title

KUGELBLITZ
Lamp

Concept

"Kugelblitz" is not only a light source, it is more than that. Normally it hides its effective significance but when it's activated it shines intensively.
The corpus is round, the surface is matt. A clean shape of selected materials produces an expression of timelessness and elegance. Because of its reduced body it fits into any office.
It doesn't need a power source because its power is produced with human energy. When you pull the handle three times you will get light for 20 minutes.

No inconvenient cables, no power from a nuclear power plant and no unsustainable materials are its benefits.
"Kugelblitz" is made out off glas, wood and steel. It is powered by a spring which moves an small generator. The generator produces the power for six LEDs which are positioned on a ring inside the glas solid.
