International Holocaust Remembrance Day

This January 27th is International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz. For this Remembrance Day, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), in cooperation with the European Parliament, CEJI – A Jewish contribution to an Inclusive Europe and the European Jewish Community Centre (EJCC), organised an event entitled "Learning from the Past, Learning for the Future". This is particularly relevant at a time when some Europeans seem to be having doubts about what "Europe" means and news events make us reflect more than ever on how to co-exist peacefully. It is important to remember just what Europe is achieving each and every day. By highlighting successful educational initiatives, the EESC shows that combatting discrimination today by learning from the tragedies of the past is essential for the future of our European Union. Together we must build a common identity and draw strength from our diversity. We Europeans are all in this together.
