The EESC welcomes the much expected communication on the European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion as the flagship initiative specifically aimed at achieving an inclusive growth and at taking 20 million Europeans out of poverty by 2020. "The Commission's approach to improve social conditions in a sustainable way and to deliver on the Europe 2020 strategy targets with every single anti-poverty measure is exactly what the EESC's advises for tackling poverty", says president Staffan Nilsson.
