Henri Malosse and India's ambassador discuss EU-India’s Common Values and Democracy

Henri Malosse, President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), received Manjeev Singh Puri, Ambassador of India to the European Union. This was the first meeting between the two, following the appointment of Ambassador Puri in November last year, who has been in post only 15 days.

Mr Malosse welcomed the Ambassador by saying that “Europe has many trading partners, but we should strengthen relations with those countries, like India, who are built on the common values of democracy, freedom and human rights”. The exchange focused on topics of general interest  where Mr Malosse endorsed that “the European Union shouldn't consider only economic criteria in defining the priorities in its external relations, but put more emphasis on deepening the links with those, who are sharing values.”

Ambassador  Puri expressed his delight at the commitment of the EESC the EU institution responsible for civil society to strengthen relations with India and expressed his willingness to work together on topics of interest , such as climate trade and security. He also shared that India, South Africa and Brazil were working on topics of interest and there was a great deal to be shared between countries of common values.
