EU and Latin American civil society request that investments, while retaining their economic value, should promote sustainable development

The Seventh Meeting of EU and Latin American organised civil society, held in Santiago de Chile on 4, 5 and 6 December 2012, will send its message to the EU-Latin America & Caribbean Head of State Summit (Santiago de Chile, 26 and 27 December 2012).

The 7th Meeting was chaired by Mr Nilsson, President of the European Economic and Social Committee. Mr. Nilsson underlined that: “Given the importance of having economic and social actors participating in the EU-LAC relations, the EESC and its Latin American counterparts should broaden their cooperation in order to provide, on a regular basis, their contribution to the objectives and policies agreed by the EU-LAC Summits”. Mr. Gaete, Director General for Bilateral Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile spoke at the opening. In his speech, he assured that the Chilean Government is fully supportive of the EESC activities in Latin America and affirmed that "The participation of civil society organizations is crucial to make bi-regional relations open and transparent and to promote and legitimize regional integration processes”.
