    We all worry about the millions of young skilled people in Europe, ready to enter the labour market, looking for a job. And they often begin their working life, if at all, in precarious, low-paid part-time employment. From the beginning of my term of office, I have consistently said: yes, Europe is affected by a very serious financial, budgetary, social and political crisis.     Extraordinary meeting of the Workers' Group
    Royal Olympic Hotel, Athanassiou Diakou Street 28-34, 11743 Athens, Greece

    The Workers' Group organised an extraordinary meeting in Athens on the occasion of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Among the themes discussed were the programme of the Greek presidency and the priorities of the Italian EU presidency that will follow. The second day was devoted to a discussion on the future of the democratic governance of the EU and the social impact of the Troika's role.


  • Conference - Cedefop, Thessaloniki, Greece

    This conference of the Labour Market Observatory, hosted by CEDEFOP (European centre for the development of vocational training) has been an occasion to look at issues such as: the future skills supply and demand in Europe, the matching of skills and competences with the labour market needs, the need to increase synergies between the worlds of education and work, the recognition of qualifications and the enhancement of intra-EU mobility of workers.
