Objective(s)
CECED self commitment dated 31 October 2002 aims at ceasing production and imports of several models of washing machines. The agreement concerns the market of private washing machines that are used by households to wash textiles for private use. The EEA appears as the relevant geographic area of the market. The manufacturers that have signed the commitment hold around 90,5% of the EEA market. Imports in the EEA account for 5 to 7% of final sales.
The industry association (CECED) asked to withdraw them and make rules mandatory for everybody.

Succinct description of the type of Monitoring
Monitoring and reporting: CECED has established and updates a database, monitored by an independent consultant who reports annually to CECED and to the Commission on the fulfilment of the objectives per category class and for the overall target of 0,20 by end of 2008. The independent consultant (notary) aggregates individualised data submitted by each manufacturer.
