For the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), the European Union's second assembly, the Greek presidency gives Europe a unique opportunity: coming just a few months before the European elections, it could have a major impact by helping to give the public a more concrete idea of what Europe is about. Today, at the Greek parliament, the EESC underlined the lessons Greece has learned from the way the crisis has been handled, most importantly, how crucial it is not to ignore the voice of the European population.

Among other things, these hearings will discuss the problem of youth unemployment.

8 Nov 2013 Ref: 70/2013 State aid in aviation: as much as necessary, as little as possible State aid in aviation must be the exception rather than the rule; if it is granted, it should always be spent for clearly defined purposes, within a specified timeframe, and it should be as transparent as possible, said Jacek Krawczyk, president of the Employers' Group, rapporteur for EESC's numerous opinions on the aviation industry. His statement came at a conference "Aviation – does it need state aid?" convened by the EESC yesterday ahead of the January publication by the European Commission of revised state aid rules in aviation.
