Skills and mobility for competitiveness

Conference - Cedefop, Thessaloniki, Greece

This conference of the Labour Market Observatory was hosted by CEDEFOP (European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training), in Thessaloniki.

The participants could listen to presentations and participate to lively debates during four sessions dedicated to:

  • the anticipation of future skill needs in Europe,
  • the matching of skills and competences with the labour market requirements,
  • the need to increase synergies between the worlds of education and work (through apprenticeships, traineeships, partnerships between social partners, public authorities, education, etc.),
  • the efforts directed towards a better recognition of qualifications and the improvement of workers' geographical mobility.

The panels featured high-level speakers from CEDEFOP, the European Commission, the European Network on Regional Labour Market Monitoring, the Point College (the top vocational and educational school of Finland), the European Centre for Women and Technology, the Iperia Institute of the European Federation for Family Employment, the Austrian Institute IBW on Research & Development in VET, the Greek Public Employment Service, the European Youth Forum and the company Cross Border Talents. In addition, the participants could also listen to interventions from social partners at the EU and Greek levels, the Economic and Social Council of Greece and the National Confederation of Disabled People of Greece.
