The proposal for reform of the Common Fisheries Policy was published in July 2011. It aims to provide EU citizens with a stable, secure and healthy food supply for the long term.

Commissioner Damanaki presented a clear timeframe to stop overfishing: all fish stocks will have to be brought to the MSY level (Maximum Sustainable Yield) by 2015.
