LONG-TERM FINANCING OF THE EUROPEAN ECONOMY – Towards a joint civil society perspective

Public Hearing - EESC, Brussels, Belgium

The European Commission on 25 March 2013 presented a Green Paper that launched a public consultation on how to foster the supply of long-term financing to the economy. The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) as the EU´s institutional body representing organised civil society has been consulted on this issue by the Commission and is in the process of preparing its opinion.

Civil society has a vital interest in this debate, and the EESC will hold a public hearing "LONG-TERM FINANCING OF THE EUROPEAN ECONOMY – Towards a joint civil society perspective" which will take place on Thursday, 30 May 2013 at the EESC´s premises in Brussels.

The hearing will gather representatives of the financial sector as well as organisations representing the stakeholders in financial markets. The aim is to explore the various demands and needs and make a first attempt at identifying common trends that the EESC can put forward on behalf of organised civil society in its opinion scheduled for adoption by the EESC Plenary Assembly on 10 July 2013.
