Following five successful "Digital Agenda Going Local" events held in Dublin (2011), Riga (2012), Warsaw (June 2013), Malta (September 2013) and Greece (May 2014), the TEN section is now organising, in cooperation with the presidency of the Sicilian region, a new Going Local conference on Boosting growth and employment through improving ICT infrastructures and broadband.
Affordable broadband connectivity and services are essential for generating economic growth and global competitiveness, and for achieving social progress. Moreover, in the context of the economic crisis, a better penetration of broadband is vital to job creation and the introduction of innovative new services, including the use of e-Government. The latter plays an important role for it has the potential to increase public involvement in a community, improve local democracy and strengthen the level of trust.
The conference will ensure the participation of civil society actors with direct on-field experience, and will be centred on the following two complementary topics:
