The Euromed Summit brings together over 150 participants, to promote greater understanding of the main issues affecting organised civil society in the Euromed region. The 2014 Euromed Summit will have a particular emphasis on the following:
the challenges related to social exclusion and poverty in the north and south of the Mediterranean,
The importance of the social economy and entrepreneurship,
the socio-economic situation of young people in the Euromed region

Vertbois (Liège), Belgium The 'Eurovignette Directive' allows Member States to charge heavy lorries for the use of some parts of the European road infrastructure. The proposal to revise this Directive, known as 'Eurovignette II', aims to allow Member States to charge heavy lorries on the basis of 'external costs' of air and noise pollution. The revision of the Directive should enable Member States to better manage traffic on the biggest major roads by allowing a wider variation of toll rates. It also encourages the reinvestment of revenue from the additional charges in projects designed to make transport more environmentally friendly.
