The 6th joint seminar is a part of existing format of cooperation between the EESC and the Civic Chamber of Russian Federation under which one joint seminar is organized each year. Following the last Joint Declaration of the 5th joint seminar, the two main topics which will be addressed during the 6th seminar are human rights and trade. The conclusions of the seminar will be sent to relevant institutions prior to the next EU-Russia Summit scheduled for mid-2013.

The debate on "The European way to integration: intercultural dialogue and mutual respect" was held on Friday 21 November 2008 from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. at the Committee building in Brussels (99 rue Belliard, 1040 Brussels, room JDE 62). It was one of the first initiatives put forward by Mario Sepi, new president of the European Economic and Social Committee. - -

European Citizens' Forum - Seminar on Europe of Solidarity – our challenge for tomorrow
This high-level seminar is part of a European debate on the challenges of intergenerational solidarity in an ageing Europe. It is the follow-up to another large-scale event organised by the EESC last June in Wroclaw (Poland): the European Citizens' Forum. The latter was a notable success, which apart from providing a forum for discussion for the people concerned, also helped to bring the European venture closer to the public at large. Having conveyed the message of the European Citizens' Forum to European ministers at the informal meeting of ministers for employment and social affairs, organised by the French presidency in Chantilly on 10-11 June, this time we would like to meet in Brussels, at the heart of the EU decision-making process, to deliver the message of the people direct to European decision-makers in an area crucial for the future of Europe. The seminar intends to examine, in particular, questions relating to intergenerational solidarity and various aspects of family policy. - -
