With the support of the Croatian government and the European Commission, and in cooperation with the Croatian Economic and Social Council and the Council for Civil Society Development, the EU-Croatia Civil Society Follow-up Committee has been set up (decision adopted at the EESC plenary session on 13-14 December 2006).
During its second meeting held in Split on 5 October 2007, the Follow-up Committee changed its name into EU-Croatia Joint Consultative Committee.
The Joint Consultative Committee comprises 12 members.
The EU-Croatia Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) represents the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and Croatian civil society organisations. The JCC complements the bodies already set up within the framework of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the EU and Croatia, and allows civil society organisations from both sides to monitor the accession negotiations and prepare Croatia's accession. It also plays an essential role in disseminating information in the EU and in Croatia, and in initiating debates on issues of common interest among the public.
The EU-Croatia Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) held its 12th meeting in Brussels on 11 December 2012. Under the two working sessions the JCC members discussed EU regional policy, in particular from the perspective of how to build the bridge from pre-accession assistance into management of the structural funds. Croatia as an acceding country has an active observer status in the European institutions. Therefore, the JCC also looked closely at the role of the EESC in the institutional decision-making framework as well as heard from the Committee's Members about their experiences in the context of the previous enlargements.
