13 Mar 2006Agence Europe - http://www.agenceurope.com/(EU) EU/EESC/LISBON STRATEGY: EU Presidency says “national reform programmes can increase confidence in Lisbon process” - greater involvement of parliaments and local authorities in EU “The Lisbon Strategy is the improvement of the well-being of citizens and the creation of jobs,” Secretary of State at the Federal Finance Ministry of the Republic of Austria Dr Alfred Finz stressed. Speaking on behalf of the Austrian Presidency of the EU at the Budapest conference (see above), Dr Finz said that “the first fruits of the Lisbon Strategy have been the improvement in conditions generally and in economic factors”. “National reform programmes (NRP) can increase confidence in the Lisbon Process. Parliaments, local and regional authorities have to become more involved and the feeling of responsibility has to be increased in Member States,” he went on.
